A stylised pelican, carved from Creeton¹ Silverbed Limestone, hand-polished and finished with natural beeswax.

Appx. 30cm (h) x 12cm (w) x 20cm (d)

This one started out with the intention of being straight up and down, block carving, but there was a flaw in the stone. Rather than leaving it as a potential problem for the future I decided he’d have a slight list to one side, almost as if the pelican had decided to squint at the observer.

The end result was so much better than I’d hoped for, he has a quirky and real character, that I feel would have been missing as from the original sketched.

And the Silverbed limestone polishes up so beautifully.
